In epic theatre, the costume should clearly identify a character’s occupation and/or status in society. Brecht's aim of epic theatre was to challenge the audience, to make them think about what was happening on stage, about the issue. The epic style can be adapted to any form of theatre that puts a social or political message before the exploration of character.
